In 1898 the City of Metz granted the Protestant community a piece of land called "Jardin d'Amour" The neo roman style temple was desigh=ned by the architect Wahn. In spite of the protests of residents Kaiser William II laid the first stone in 1901 in the presence of the Military Governor. He returned with his wife to inauguate the Temple in 1904.
